First off, a big thank you to Lo for hosting this blog tour, it’s been fun and pushed me to make some doll clothes! (Plus, there’s a giveaway – don’t forget to check at the end!) It was both easier and harder than expected… Sleeves were not super easy, but they go so quickly that I think it’s not as painful! This pattern is a beautifully finished dress and comes together in no time flat. Honestly. I think it took me 40 minutes to sew up, and that’s more because of small parts and being nervous.
Oh Sew Kat has a bunch of different doll patterns to choose from, and I was able to use the School Dance Dress – which itself has a bunch of options! I was even going to try to do the math, but dozens… There’s a straight front dress, a split and princess seam option. Then, she mentions belts, ribbons and bows and you can keep going forever!
For my first doll clothing experience, I decided to keep it on the simple side. Of course, I did cut two dresses, but some machine problems kept me from getting them both done in time. So, what you see here is the split front option, View B, done in some beautiful purple floral I’ve had sitting in my stash left over from a tea party outfit I made two years ago. I also decided to use snaps instead of velcro for the back closure, because – have you seen this dolls hair? It’s just as crazy curly as my daughters’ can get and the velcro could become a disaster….

Beautiful fabric indeed…..Your doll’s hair just goes to show how much she is loved and played with, and maybe just a few velcro tangles in between. .

Oh snaps are a great idea! Doll hair can be so difficult, especially with Velcro! She looks great in her new dress!

The color combination is great! I had sewing troubles too and this same option was the one that actually came out a success!
