It’s been over three months since my last post. And I’ve been avoiding that.
I’m in this weird spot… there’s some major things I’m working on behind the scenes, I’m trying to be more present in my daily life, plus we added homeschooling on this year when I had planned on having a couple hours each day to myself. It’s been tough transitioning and then we have to add on that we’re facing a really big move this year. I haven’t said anything here specifically, though if you know me around social media I’ve mentioned it: the power company hubs works for is being shut down by NYS. It’s a great job with good pay and wonderful benefits, so we’ll be staying with the company and relocating 1400 miles southwest. I think I’m finally coming to terms with it. As I write this, we’re currently dotting all the i’s and crossing all the t’s on buying our first house! We don’t close for another month, but there’s lots to do and being out of state makes it that much harder.
So, what all of this means is that I may be less present here – but I’m trying! From the beginning I never wanted to set a strict schedule because that just doesn’t work well for me. I need to be able to move things around and get new ideas that take all of my focus away. Plus, there’s House of Curves, which takes some time from me both with blogging and with just taking care of the group in general. We’ve had to do some unexpected restructuring lately, so I’m hopeful that means we can be more intentional with what we’re posting. Plus, we recently launched a YouTube channel and I’m the debut blogger! (You should go watch the SAL playlist, I made the PS I Love You from Petite Stitchery – and let me know what I could do better. It was my first time recording anything, my first time doing a SAL and my first time editing a video! I’ve never even participated in a SAL, so this was ALL NEW TERRITORY.)
There are lots of ideas for SeamsLikeStyle (and for House of Curves) for the coming year – and future years. Some of them I can talk about and others I need to keep hidden for a while longer.
One of the ideas I’ve been tossing around is the focus of SeamsLikeStyle. I created this blog as a very niche area: plus size apparel sewing. And I’ve struggled with feeling like I shouldn’t share other aspects of my life here. If I get in a sewing funk, or if I get into another project that’s not sewing, I’ve avoided posting it here – but I think it’s time for that to change.
As a family, we like all the things DIY. Woodworking, the boys like plastic models, I want to try out pour paintings, I like to cook and sometimes bake… plus with buying a house we’ll be figuring out what goes where and we’ll have a nice outside area to complete as well. Lot’s of DIY in our future!
Some of our past projects are pictured above, and would be the types of things I’d be posting. Anything ranging from creating a dining set (placemat, napkin, napkin rings, produce bags, pot holders and apron) to building our platform bed with storage, headboard and side tables, to whoopie pies, dumplings and welding.
I hope this new path interests all of you, and can help with more regular posting.
